What this space believes, and what you can expect here.
I love Technology.
It’s wonderful.
And it matters. It matters what our starting point is and what we include.
It matters how we decide to define it, and how we use it.
Technology (technē + logos), in its truest sense is our applied wisdom, our creations, and our ability to transform the world - encompassing not just what we create, but the ways in which we do so and the reasons why.
So for me, technology, in its fullest sense, means our knowledge, creations, and innovations that support and improve our lives and contribute to our organic growth and development. It includes everything from language, writing, cooking, meditation, faith, religion, art, music, dance, mathematics, and medicine to books, pianos, radios, guitars, paints, furniture, roofs, ovens, washing machines, building materials, bicycles, cars, trains, planes, mobile phones, MRIs, and AI—and everything else we have invented in service of a vision to make life bigger and better.
Technology should aim to do no harm. Where risks exist, they should be transparent, accountable, and approached with care, always placing the safety of people and animals first.
There will always be risks in life from using fire, turning on the electricity, living in buildings, driving cars, riding trains, taking medicine, and using any of our modern communication tools. But when we are honest about those risks, and when we design systems that put humans above profit, we move closer to a world where everyone can live with dignity.
In this newsletter, I will share some of my thoughts on everything from AI to why I think the book is a perfect object, to why we need to understand cooking traditions before mixing ingredients, and why tables should ideally have four legs.
